Italian situation of Humanistic Musictherapy

Italian situation of Humanistic Musictherapy

In Novembre 2005 the First Italian Conference of F.I.M. took place in Sicily.
In March 2006 the National Convention “The Sound of the Life” took place in Riccione (RM).

The board of directors and the assembly F.I.M. are glad to address the assembly, the vice- presidents and the president of EMTC in order to communicate important data. The professionals enrolled to FIM are engaged to introduce the effectiveness of Humanistic Musictherapy, on a cultural and professional plan.
The model of Humanistic Musictherapy has been generated in Italy with decades of study by its founders, Giulia Cremaschi Trovesi, Mauro Scardovelli, Simona Colpani and by the members of
A.P.M.M. (Association of Musical Pedagogy and Musictherapy, founded in May 1991) before, founders of F.I.M. in May 1998, later.

The effectiveness of the Humanistic Musictherapy is evidenced on specific points:
- Italy, in the interior of Europa, has a particular social and scholastic organization. Disabled children (or handicapped) attend school with their “normal” school-fellows. To receive ALL the children in the same school, in the same class, requires an educative and formative engagement that goes beyond the common preparation of teaching. Children who grow up in contact with disabled school-fellows, learn to recognize others’ needs, to mature a social and civil sense of respect for all the diversities besides for themselves. The thought on which Musical Pedagogy is founded, is the same of Musictherapy. It’s not a question of teaching music. According to Fenomenological thought, “making music” generates a graduality of procedures shaped on each particular human situation. Philogenesis (the way of human’s process to be able to write words, numbers and music) and Ontogenesis ( each one way of process) are closely connected. The model of Humanistic MusicTherapy does not separate Musical Pedagogy by MusicTherapy. The theoretical foundations are rooted on “Phenomenological–Existential” (Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, E.Stein, Carlo Sini) thought. The Epistemology of the sound and of the music opens more and more wide horizons in the field of musictherapy.
- The experiences with several cases of deafness (children, youths, adults) open horizon on perceptive processes. Listening is not exclusively by ears. A person can be deaf, but can learn to listen. A person can hear…but is not able to listen. So the studies of musictherapy lead to put in relation deafness with authism, as two aspects of the same problem: Listening. To perceive becomes “To be in the World”. Every “perceiving” is subjective. The DIALOGUE is on the base of our social life, of every learning, relation, behaviour.
The sound, that is the First Orchestra ( the Mother Womb) is at the origin of the very life.
The sound is wave of energy, stimulus to movement.

Our living springs by movement (the so called “Vibrating Body”).
The sound becomes gesture:
- Gesture expresses emotions – gesture becomes voice, word, spoken language;
- Gesture is Order – order becomes coordination – Rhythm – Measure;
- The Management of space-time, the Movement, the Measure through movement, becomes Numeration;
- Numbers are called using words (names of the numbers);
- Every gesture has in itself movement, time, rythm; it’s music (see history of musical notation, by Guido d’Arezzo, through the discantus, the vocal and instrumental polyphony, the orchestral scores);
- The Improvisation at piano is the main carrying axis of the job in musical pedagogy;
- The Clinical Improvisation at piano, including Sonorous Dialogue ( the more various use of every kind of instruments) is the carrying axis of MusicTherapy.
Music exists since man exists. Also Medicine exists since man exists. Music and Medicine take care of the man, of his traumas, his pains and his emotions.

With the approaching of the 7th European Congress, the professionals of F.I.M. address the board of directors and the assembly of EMTC to be able to give a constructive contribute to the Musictherapy, introducing the theoretical-practical contents of humanistic model (Epistemology of Music).

The presence of models of musictherapy, leaned to different theories, enriches this discipline.
The comparison between different ways to “making music” is the DIALOGUE that allows everybody to grow up in cultural and professional sense. LISTENING is the foundation of DIALOGUE.

The professional ferment, constantly arising since years inside FIM, allows to contribute, thanks to the accreditation by Ministry of Instruction, of University and of Research, the spreading and the officialization of this discipline in the ambit of scholastic inclusion, and for all the involved ages.

The Accreditation by Ministry of Instruction, University and Research allows the members of FIM to introduce themselves to the Musical Conservatories for the institution of Musictherapy Courses. Musical Conservatories are becoming Universities. Musictherapy becomes Universitarian Course of Specialization.

Members of F.I.M. ASK to the Council of EMTC to be allowed to introduce officially, at the next European Congress (The Netherlands, 2007) the carried out work, the contents, the projects.

This opportunity can be considered as a contribution that Italy makes towards Europe.
